Welcome trogdorc to Geeks to Go!

Please remove Spyware Cleaner:
Move to Start > Settings > Control Panel
Double click Add/Remove Programs.
Within Add/Remove programs click the "Install/Uninstall" tab or click the "Change or Remove Programs" button.
Within this section you will see a listing of programs that are currently installed that support this feature. If the program I’m advising you to uninstall is listed within this list, highlight it and click the Add/Remove or uninstall option or button.

If the program is not listed within this list, let me know.

***

Download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Place the following lines (complete paths) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each

C:\Program Files\m8gd1pwe\m8gd1pwe.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lshosts32.exe

For these files, put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each file into the file name box, then click the red button with the X after each. It will ask you if you want to reboot each time you click it, answer NO until after you've pasted the last file name, at which time you should answer Yes.
Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

***

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.
Please note: your AntiVirus program may prompt you to a malicious program running. Allow the entire script to run.

4. As a side question, when I booted my computer in Safe Mode all I was getting was black screen. Attempts to run explorer.exe from Windows Task Manager kept failing as I was receiving a window with some information and and which would disappear instanteneously. It would give two options Yes and No, No would start System Restore, and Yes was supposed to start explorer.exe, but it didn't. After n-th try, I managed to start explorer and run VundoFix. Just wondering why would something like that happen.

The safe mode thing is something this infection brings allong. It should be back to normal now.

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Place the following lines (complete paths) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each

C:\WINDOWS\system32\lshosts32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES\ISTprotect.dll
C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES\OSDEB.OSD
C:\WINDOWS\INF\alchem.inf
C:\WINDOWS\msxct1.ini
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\HookPopup.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ide21201.vxd

For these files, put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each file into the file name box, then click the red button with the X after each. It will ask you if you want to reboot each time you click it, answer NO until after you've pasted the last file name, at which time you should answer Yes.
Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

***

Reboot to safe mode.

***

Open HijackThis
Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [LSASS Authority] lshosts32.exe

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running.
Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

***

Use Windows Explorer to remove these folders:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SBUtils
C:\Documents and Settings\Maximus\Favorites\Fun & Games
C:\My Program Files\PartyPoker\
C:\Program Files\Spyware Cleaner\

***

Reboot back to normal mode.

Please post me a fresh HijackThis log to check.

OK, I made changes you told me to do. One of the folders was SBUtils. What is it?

It's running great - Vundo is definitely gone :tazz: There is still some kind of gambling related pop-ups that are quite annoying, but I can live with them.

Thanks a lot.

My guess is they are related to to gamblin' programs you have on the computer.

Shall I post you some tips for the future then and close this topic?

These pop-ups were there before I installed poker software. They seem to appear more often when I run/close the program, but does not seem to be related otherwise. Why would you advertise your competitors' sites?

Thanks a lot for your help. You can close the topic.

I really dislike leaving you with something.

If you would like I could have a look at a HijackThis log in safe mode. Maybe that will tell us what is causing the popups.
