Ok. So I've been working on this for a couple days now. I think I have most of it under control. Except for the html screen that (screen.html) that the Antivirus Gold hijacker places on the desktop. I've deleted the actual screen.html file so now I just have a blank white screen as my desktop.

Programs I have run: Ad-Aware SE Professional, Ad-Watch, Microsoft Anti-Spyware, AboutBuster, CWShredder, and HSremove.

Here's my HJT log, and thanks in advance for any help (I've been reading for awhile about this stupid thing and finally decided to ask for some help).

Hi and welcome,

go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Next,
Please restart HJT put a check next to the following, close all open windows and click “Fix Checked”

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [isystem] C:\WINDOWS\system32\isystem.exe

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
If this was not set by an Admin or by a third party software have HJT fix it as well

Next Reboot into SAFE MODE Make sure you can view all Hidden Files/Folders search for and delete the files highlighted in BOLD

C:\WINDOWS\system32\isystem.exe

Restart your computer, Post back a fresh log please

Nice job your log is clean !
How is it running ?
Please use the following suggestion to help prevent reinfection

Download the following program, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster

Keep AD-Aware. and Spybot 1.3 handy, Check them for updates prior to running and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

For an added check run an online virus scan, you can use one of the 2 below,
TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program
Download and install Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

Remeber to Check Windows for updates

Probably a good time to create a new restore point See Here Name it clean or something like that,

Thanks. I do have one problem. My antivirus software acts screwy (Symantec AntiVirus Corporate). It asks me to wait while Windows configures it when I start it up. It did not do this a couple days ago when I ran it. While "configuring," it reports an "Internal Error 2718. {0EFC6259-3AD8-4CD2-BC57-D4937AF5CC0E}"

I ran a couple online free antivirus programs yesterday while trying to sort through my problems. One worked fine, the other had an error and shut down. Is it possible that this somehow affected my antivirus software?

(If I remember correctly, this is the one that worked http://us.mcafee.com...lt.asp?cid=9914 and this is the one that shut down on me http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ )

I should add, that when I right click on something and select "scan for viruses" it does the same thing. But if I hit cancel while it tries to configure it will go ahead and start the scan.

Do you happen to have your disk for Nortons ?
You may want to try and uninstall it then reinstall and see if the issue goes away,

Unfortunately I don't. The computer was issued to me through my college (factored into the tuition), so everything is licensed through them.
