Hello all,
After uninstalling Mcafee service center using the tool provided by Mcafee, IE and Outlook have run into problems. Most links on the web pages don't work. If anyone sends me an attachment I cant open it in MS outlook. Also tried to do a windows restore and the window comes up blank as well as when I try to do a Windows Update. Also tried it in safe mode using cmd prompt but I got the same results. Any one ever dealt with this before? It's not a virus as it didn't start until right after the Mcafee uninstall. Thanks in advance.+

Hello Bluewolf,

Some of these security software applications leave traces of the program on the computer, even after an uninstall. Try running the McAfee Removal tool from the following website:
How to uninstall supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe)

Follow the instructions in step one only, as you won't be reinstalling the software. What, may I ask, is going to be your replacement antivirus solution?

Hope this helps,

Ax

Sorry it took a day to reply, I couldn't do a fast reply as the link in that button doesn't work which tells you that running the removal tool again didn't work. This was what I used the first time to remove McAfee. I tried to email McAfee but can't use their system as the link buttons on their website wont work just like half them on the webpages I surf.

I was going to run Norton after getting this problem fixed.

Thanks for your suggestions. Keep them coming.

OK, I've found another possible solution to the Outlook issue:
Upgrading from McAfee to Symantec Anti-virus

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks but still no good. I havent picked up Norton yet but still looked at the add/remove programs and McAfee is not listed as well as the virus option in outlook. I think I may have to have someone professional look at it. Thanks again for trying.

NEVER USE MCAFEE.

I'll advise you to not be too quick to give up after trying only two things. I can understand your frustration, but we haven't yet exhausted the list of possible fixes. Here are a few more you can try prior to consulting someone "professional":

Please check out MS KB 235662. You do not receive errors (from what you've told me), but it may be indirectly related. This is for Outlook so if you have Outlook Express, please let me know.

Here's another one that is applicable:
Web site does not open when you click hyperlink in Outlook 2002 e-mail message

Another option would be to use your Microsoft Office CD to perform a repair installation of Outlook.

If all else fails, McAfee has Free Technical Support.

Regards,

Thanks for the info.
Tried the McAfee free support before but because of the link problem i can only get to the first page then none of the buttons work.

I actually have a neighbor who is IT/ISS support at a local hospital for all their systems and he says he's run into this before at work and knows how to fix it. He'll be over tonight or tomorrow and works for the price of a good dinner out or good BBQ which works for me.

Thanks for the help and I'll keep the suggestions in mind if more trouble arises.

:) Please do, and do let us know what procedure the resolution entailed, in case some hapless victim having the same issue runs across this thread.

Hi Ax238 & Bluewolf, reading your exchanges with great interest as I'm having exactly the same issues with MacAfee as Bluewolf and followed the same pathways without success, been on over a week on and off trying to sort it. The last resort was to wipe the whole system and restore but not holding out much hope (a new laptop looming methinks), Looking forward to your hospital guy's take on things.
