are you trying to play hi-def (blu-ray) dvd's? Are you just trying to watch it on your laptop or are you trying to watch it on an external tv?

that's odd. that error normally occurs either with a blu-ray dvd or when your hdmi to an external tv. Sounds like an issue with WinDVD. What version is windvd?
