I got this PC from a friend. It was initially crawlling with spyware, I ran spybot S&D, Adware SE, Microsoft Anti-Spy, SuperAdBlocker, and Hijack this and managed to remove almost all of it. However, I still get pop ups when online with only google open and additional scans still show a trojan called qoologic linked to wuauclt.exe. Also a bwgo[random numbers]e.exe keeps reappearing in the temp dir.

Additionally, when a user logs off, a message displays saying zcom_ad isn't responding. I rebooted to safe mode changed the search options to look at hidden files and search for any file with zcom in it and can't find this application. Online searches for it lead me to believe it is a netzero g3 web accelerator process, however netzero g3 isn't in the add/remove program list, nor does it have a folder in the program files directory. Not sure how to get rid of it.

Here is my Hijack this log. I want to avoid a reload of the OS if possible. Please help.

Hi mcdaddy and Welcome to GeekstoGo!

Download WinPFind:
http://www.bleepingc...es/winpfind.php

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet

Please download ewido security suite it is a free version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
  • Exit ewido. DO NOT scan yet.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Download CleanUp
Install the program, dont run it yet, we will later.

Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)
Here is a link on how to boot into Safe Mode:
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

Now run the CleanUp program:

*IMPORTANT NOTE*
CleanUp deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups.
If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp

Running CleanUp
  • Start CleanUp by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
  • When CleanUp starts go to the Options button (right side of CleanUp screen)
  • Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
  • Now place a checkmark next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
    • Delete Cookies
This is optional, if you leave the box checked it will remove all of your cookies, at this point removing cookies is a good idea
    • Empty Recycle Bins
    • Delete Prefetch files
    • Cleanup! All Users
  • Click OK
  • Then click on the CleanUp button. This will take a short while, let it do its thing.
  • When asked to reboot system select No
  • Close CleanUp
Now open ewido and do a scan of your system.
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Still in Safe Mode-> From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder

Restart Normal and have the PC Scanned here:
Panda Active Scan

You will need to be using Internet Explorer for the Scan to work

Save the Report it generates

Post back with a fresh HijackThis log and the reports from WinPFind-> Ewido and Panda

Panda Active Scan Report

I was unable to make this report. I suffer from a lack of broadband and the two half hour plus attempts that I made failed about five minutes from completing because I lost my connection. Would have tried a third time, but since it failed at about exavtly the same spot I assumed other attempts would also fail and it has taken me forever to get back to you. Thanks for the help by the way. Not sure if everything is gone, but at least I haven't seen any pops while online this time around.

Sorry for the late response.
The wife bought a ton of furniture on Sunday and my truck broke down when I went to pick it up and I spent the last day and a half working on it. Anyway, I scanned the computer with Spybot, adaware, microsoft Anti-spy, and ewido and all came up empty. Plus when I go online there are no more popups and there is no activity when ide. Also I was able to find out what that zcom_ad was. Turns out it's was netzero 3g web accelerator, the application was in the c:/program files/Juno directory called exec.exe. As for the bwgo00012ca8.exe file, I'm pretty sure it's related to the Kodak software. It's crazy how many of the processes on this system relate to kodak easy share, an epison printer, and Juno. I'm at work now, but I'll upload the file when I get home. That file is definitely suspect since it operates in the temp dir and part of it's name is randomly generated. Look for the file sometime around 6 PM CST. Thanks for the help.

Cretemonster,

I uploaded the file. Doesn't look good. I went to the temp dir to retrieve it and there was about a dozen of them. Hopefully, nothing to serious, I'm giving them back their PC in the morning.

McDaddy

I'll make one more last ditch attempt to find out what it is and delete it tonight. PS. I'm saving your paypal info into their favorites and let I'll let them know how much help you were and suggest throwing some cash your way. I'd kick in, but being tech support for all my friends and family is already a pain in the a$$, I can't have it cutting into my budget as well.

I had the time to peek at the file but cant really see anything useful from it.

You can go to My Documents and create a folder, then go back and move all those files into the new folder, not copy&paste but move,so that the files are no longer in the temp folder.

Restart and see if any error messages appear?

Please Install these 2 to add to the Security of the PC!

SpywareBlaster:

Update Immediatly!

WinHelp2002 Hosts File
http://www.mvps.org/...2002/hosts2.htm

Disable System Restore
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

Go ahead and Reconfigure Msconfig the way you like the PC to Startup

Go ahead and remove any of the tools downloaded that are of no use anymore

Restart the Machine.

Go ahead and Renable System Restore and restart the PC once more, this will clear out all old nasty restore points and create a nice new fresh clean one for you to fall back on should you ever need it.

It is suggested that you go and change all your passwords since some of these may have been compromised during the infection.

Read through those 3 little black links in my signature to get some extra ideas about how to avoid this in the future.

Please remember to check your AntiVirus and any Spyware Apps for updates atleast twice a week

Make sure you keep your Windows Operating System up to date by visiting Windows Updates regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs.

If you ever need us again, you know how to find us! :tazz:
