I have been battling this cpu for a while finaly got time to post

The cpu is a HP Pavilion Media Center m8000.n tv pc operating system is vista 64
I will be working on it and most of the time it is while on the internet it will just go dark and the cpu will shut down and not restart. I have to push the on switch. It will start and the screen that gives you start normal or safe mode comes up.
I did a full format and reloaded vista 64 on the computer and put norton 360 4.0 on it.
I took it apart blew it out with compressed air and ensured all connections were in place and not loose.
It does not matter where it is pluged in it still does it.
I did the computer properties advanced setting uncheck box with restart auto in case of error.
installed fan program info below
Fan 1 at 1444 rpm fan 2 at 1074 rpm no fan 3
temp 1 47C temp 2 -128C temp 3 24C core 28C
I swapped power supply whith another cpu it still dies.
Where should I go from here?

I clicked analyze znd it did not ask about the debug but came up with the below posted copied from the program. Thanks by the way.

Welcome to WhoCrashed Home Edition 2.00
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This program checks for drivers which have been crashing your computer.

Whenever a computer suddenly reboots without displaying any notice or blue screen of death, the first thing that is often though about is a hardware failure. In reality, on Windows most crashes are caused by malfunctioning device drivers and kernel modules. In case of a kernel error, most computers do not show a blue screen unless they are configured to do so. Instead these systems suddenly reboot without any notice.

This program does post-mortem crash dump analysis with the single click of a button.

To obtain technical support visit www.resplendence.com/support

To check if a newer version of this program is available, click here.

Just click the Analyze button for a comprehensible report ...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Home Edition notice
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This version of WhoCrashed is free for use at home only. If you would like to use this software at work or in a commercial environment you should get the professional edition. The professional edition of WhoCrashed also allows analysis of crashdumps on remote drives and computers on the network and offers more detailed analysis.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Analysis
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Crash dump directory: C:\Windows\Minidump

Crash dumps are enabled on your computer.

No valid crash dumps have been found on your computer

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Crash dumps are enabled and no valid crash dumps have been found on your computer. In case your computer does experience sudden reboots it is likely these are caused by malfunctioning hardware, power failure or a thermal issue. To troubleshoot a thermal issue, check the temperature using your BIOS setup program, check for dust in CPU and motherboard fans and if your computer is portable make sure it's located on a hard surface. Otherwise it's suggested you contact the support department of the manufacturer of your system or test your system with a memory test utility for further investigation.

Please follow the steps below to enter the Event Viewer program in Vista. This will give me more information into what is causing your issue. You can get to Event viewer two ways and I will post both for you.

Method One
• Go to
• Start
• In the Search box type in Event Viewer in the search box and press Enter
• From this point you can follow from step four from the below method as they will be the same.
Method Two
• Go to Start
• Right click on the Computer Icon and select Manage
• Navigate to the Event Viewer, You will be prompted to accept the action you are going to perform. Click continue
• On the left window pane click on Local and then expand the Windows entry. This will allow you to see every error for the past 24 hours as well as the last 7 days in the right window pane.
• Look for the ones that correspond to the times that your issue occurred.
• If any are found please double click and expand the error. This will open and give you more information on the error.
• Please include that in your next reply.

Could this error be causing the shutdown?

followed the instructions and it said item deleted then another box poped up stated access denied to file test vbd

ok went online and fixed those other event id errors too

ran cpu again and watched video died again.

I also conducted a visual search and noticed some of the transistors were flat on top and some were kind of bloated not like busting out there were some with what looked like marker and others had like a white material on the tops. there was one that had some dark brown sediment around it like dried up coffee. I tried to post a pic with marks on it to id the transistors but it said the attachment exceeds the size limit. could this be an issue? can I PM you with the pic to show where they are.

while i was in the casefeeling the transistors i ran accrost a half moon looks like a magnet with copper wire around it there were 3 of them by the processor. The reason i bring this up is that they were hot as couls be I checked the other ones on the board and they were cool to the touch. these three were right next to each other and by the processor fan in the area where the transistors are at. are they suppose to be hot like burn you hot?

****UPDATE****

A transistor will not leak, but an electrolytic capacitor sure will.

http://www.solarboti...ducts/cp4700uf/

Did it look like the device above?

If you have leaky caps, call HP and explain your situation. If they won't help you, you'll need to repair or replace the motherboard; the latter option being the easier.
