Hello lovepaul,
My name is Harry and I would like to help you out there.
First:
You are currently using HijackThis from a temporary directory, this can cause problems.
HijackThis creates backups, these are needed in case of any recovery issues.
Please create a directory on your C:\ drive called C:\HJT, download and unzip HijackThis into that directory. Run the program from that directory from now on.

STEPS For Creating Folder
1. Please go to My Computer, open your C:\ drive, Select: New >> Folder and name the folder HJT.

2. Download HijackThis to the new folder:

3. Double Click on 'HijackThis.zip' to extract and install HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

4. Close ALL windows except HJT

5. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

6. POST the log in this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')
Please make sure you post the entire log including the top portion:

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS SOME OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Next, I would like you to give a brief description of the problems you are having. Also, are you a student of Republic Polytechnic, and do you use Chinanet for any internet access?

Lets see the new HJT log please.

Also, and my apologies for gatecrashing this thread, there's a file we'd like to have a closer look at::

C:\WINDOWS\system32\4173ntos.dll

It looks to be a new parasite, so we'd like to receive a sample for analysis!

Could I ask you to please go to this forum

There's no need to register. Just start a new topic, titled "File for TonyKlein".

In the topic, simply refer to this GtG forum thread, and use the Attachment box to upload the file.

In fact there's not even a need to actually browse to the file: just copy the full path to the file, in this case:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\4173ntos.dll

... and paste it in in the attachment box, then press the 'Post' button. The file will be found and uploaded.

NOTE: You will not see the files that have been uploaded (including the ones you upload yourself) as they only show to the authorised users who can download them

After that I'll be happy to leave you in harrythook's most capable hands! :whistling:

Thanks!

I am not sure how to di that attaching.

... but I explained it to you in detail....

Just go to that SpyKiller forum I linked to, and press "New topic".

Call it: File for TonyKlein, say it's from this GeeksToGo forum.

Under where you type the text, you'll find a box called "Attach". You can browse to that C:\WINDOWS\system32\4173ntos.dll file, highlight it, and then press the Open button, or even easier, paste the exact path in the attachment box (like I explained), and then press the open button.

When you re done, simply press the Post button, and that's all. Nothing to it. :whistling:

Hi lovepaul,
One thing, could you answer these questions:

Next, I would like you to give a brief description of the problems you are having. Also, are you a student of Republic Polytechnic, and do you use Chinanet for any internet access?

We will be back to you shortly :whistling:

Harry

Hi Henry,

Yes I am a student of Republic Poly..

And..

We do not officially use ChinaNet and maybe I think it is something which I accidentally downloaded. If not then there is something bad passing around in our wireless network in school.

Hi lovepaul,
Thanks for uploading that file, it really helps us out.
Lets get to work cleaning up there.

Please note that you will see a tilde (~) in some of the file paths, this is just an abbreviation in windows. Example:
C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1 is really PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES.
If you are unsure about navigating around this just ask.

First:
Go to Start > Run and type Services.msc then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the below service:

COM+ Messages

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, under the General tab click the Stop button, then click the drop-down box to change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok.

Open HiJackThis, click on None of the above, just start the program. Now, click on the Config button (bottom right), click on Misc Tools, then click on Delete an NT Service. A window will pop up. Enter the below item into that field (make sure there are NO spaces before or after the name):

COM+ Messages

Click OK.

It should pull up information about the service, then ask if you want to reboot. Click YES.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

Hey lovepaul,
seems like we a bit more work to do.
if you could give me the result of the AVG scan, and give me another list if you could:
Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Hey lovepaul,
I would really like to see one last HJT log and that uninstall list. This is the only way for me to see that your machine is actually clean.

If you are certain that your machine is clean and running fine, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to help you out. Please be sure to return here if you have any more problems. :whistling:
