hi

just as i thougt my troubles were gone...

i followed instructions to the t. when i completed the "restore" my screen appeared but with the bottom bar iow start bar missing. or rather covered by something white. So i started it with the 'keyboard" and the start menu appears with no info inside.

When double clicking the mozilla fire fox button (to connect to the internet) the following message appear

" c:/programfiles/mozilla/firefox.exe

This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. reinstalling the application my fix the problem"

The same applies to all my other programmes.

i'm using my office computer at the moment.

In the meantime i did and could backup all my stuff on to a ext hard drive.

could you fix this problem from your end or should i just 'reboot' with my windows XP software. this seems the easier option.

please advise. sorry if i sound pannicky. i appreciate your efforts so far. i hope you could dig me out of this one ;-)

cheers

Well not sure what to say at the moment..that a new one on me....I'll look into it but I'm heading out the door for work at the moment,

Are you able to do ANYTHING with the computer?? If so create a new user/profile(see below) and see if you can work from there. Just off the top of my head it sound like you profile was borked somehow. Sorry I have no more info to offer at the moment,

NEW PROFILE
Go to Start > Control Panel

Double-Click User Accounts
Choose Create a new Account
Type any name for the account then click Next
Choose Computer Administrator then click Create Account

Log off your current account.

Reboot your computer, then log-in to the new account you just created.

Hi

This is what happened now.

I had to look for my original windows CD and eventually found it. I reinstalled windows. Simple as that.
What to do next?I have no more pop ups or anything. Computer is running smoothly. Any reports you'd like me to forward to make sure?
Thanks for your patience.

Well if you got a new install (which CAN be nice...spyware free, fast, no clutter) You should be good to go. I'll post a couple of recommended programs and some links to check out.

Make SURE you have ONE (and only one) Anti-Virus and ONE Firewall ( some good free one link in my signature)
Also an anti-Malware program like AVG anti-Malware or SuperAntiSpyware

To reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster and SpyWareGuard and IE/Spyad.

SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are by JavaCool and both are free programs. SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed and consumes no system resources. SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It is free.

More info and download is available at links in the following article by TonyKlein
