How to detect existing antivirus software?

I have AVG and it's working!
It still said that it detected other antivirus but if you tried to continue with the install it would get so far and not work at all because it couldn't update it? It updated and is running right now so thank-you all so much for the help you've given me because I know I've been a pain in the arse!
