I have Toshiba Satellite BK-3 with Win XP (SP2).
Lately it started to slow down. And now my Spybot prompts me whether I should allow the registry change
The entry: innosetupregfile.0000000001
Old data: C:\WINDOWS\is-VLJA2.exe

Please advise what is this? Should I allow change or should I deny ? :)
Plus what can be done in order to make my laptor run fast as it was perviously?
Thank you in advance :)

If you read the thread there you will see step by step instructions to help fix your problem.

If your machine still has problems you can come back here with your HijackThis log.

Hello mraskin,

The link below tells something about InnoSetup.

http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php

But what is VLJA2.exe is the question.

Can't see any problems in the rest of your log.

I think the best approach is to submit the file for scanning then have a deeper look at your machine to see if there are any other indicators of a problem.

  • Please go to VirSCAN.org FREE on-line scan service
  • Copy and paste the following file path into the "Suspicious files to scan"box on the top of the page:
  • C:\WINDOWS\is-VLJA2.exe
  • Click on the Upload button
  • Once the Scan is completed, click on the "Copy to Clipboard" button. This will copy the link of the report into the Clipboard.
  • Paste the contents of the Clipboard in your next reply.
Next
  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)
So when you return please post
  • the results of the Virscan
  • the two RSIT logs - log.txt and info.txt

Hi
I did go to VirSCAN.org and when I hit Upload the messge came back saying that the " C:\WINDOWS\is-VLJA2.exe"
can not be found.
So I can't proceed to the next step.
Any idea what can be done?

I guess the next step is to have a look.

Please carry out the RSIT scan mentioned at my earlier post.

Note: I will be away - see my signature - so won't get back to you for a couple of days.

Hello mraskin,

C:\WINDOWS\is-VLJA2.exe shows in the registry without a file. Probably why you couldn't get a VirSCAN to work.

In this post we will remove it, check another file I am unsure about, update a vunerable program and run two scans to check for malware that may not be immediately apparent.

It is important you carry out actions exactly in the order they appear.

  • Please go to VirSCAN.org FREE on-line scan service
  • Copy and paste the following file path into the "Suspicious files to scan"box on the top of the page:
  • C:\WINDOWS\Er.ini
  • Click on the Upload button
  • Once the Scan is completed, click on the "Copy to Clipboard" button. This will copy the link of the report into the Clipboard.
  • Paste the contents of the Clipboard in your next reply.
Now

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [InnoSetupRegFile.0000000001] "C:\WINDOWS\is-VLJA2.exe" /REG

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

Next

Your Java is out of date, older versions are vunerable to attack.

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.
After that

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Lastly

Kaspersky works with Internet Explorer and Firefox 3.

Go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
Copy and paste that information in your next post.

So when you return please post
  • VirSCAN report
  • MBAM report
  • Kaspersky scan results
  • a fresh HijackThis log

Hi mraskin,

We didn't get that O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [InnoSetupRegFile.0000000001] "C:\WINDOWS\is-VLJA2.exe" /REG

My fault, I should have asked you to disable TeaTimer. :)

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.
Now

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [InnoSetupRegFile.0000000001] "C:\WINDOWS\is-VLJA2.exe" /REG

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

Next

Please download the OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    :processes
    explorer.exe
    :files
    C:\WINDOWS\is-VLJA2.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{1894DD41-F6F0-4A58-8B1E-56055F057DCD}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Hotmail - Inbox.dbx
    :commands
    [purity]
    [emptytemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the "Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document along with a new HijackThis log back here in your next post.
