Hello msrakin,

Please download the OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    :files
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared
    C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec
    :commands
    [emptytemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the "Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Well I thought that would be too easy.

Lets try this.

Before we proceed we need to backup your Registry. Making changes to your computers registry is a dangerous proceedure and backup will allow us to recover information if necessary.

Download and install ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) from here lars Hederer or here Snapfiles.com.

Click on ERUNT and follow the prompts to backup your registry to a location of your choosing.

Now

Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    :processes
    explorer.exe
    :reg
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "WinFaxAppPortStarter"=-
    :files
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\wfxsnt40.exe
    :commands

In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post and tell me whether that has made a difference.

Well, the leftovers you have are bits scattered in your machines registry. I have removed the obvious ones but am reluctant to go further because of the risk of damage to your machine.

As things are, the remnants won't hurt anything and as far as I am aware, will only show when your run the Norton Removal tool.

My advice is to leave well alone.

Here is the link to Symantec which explains manual removal instructions if you wish but as I say I would just leave it now.

http://service1.syma...998102114161204

Now
  • Make sure you have an Internet Connection.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit3.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Click on the CleanUp! button
  • A list of tool components used in the Cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
  • If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OtMoveit2 to reach the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  • Click Yes to begin the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Happy computing,

Do I need to delete ERUNT ?

I think it is a good little program and a great way to back up your registry. Never had a problem with it.

I use it on one of my computers and find that when I need to use it to restore things it does it more efficiently than System Restore.

Having said that you should check out the Documentation points to understand how it works. You might find for example that you need to remove some backups after a while otherwise they can build up and become a bit of a memory hog. This can be avoided by setting it up correctly at the begining. Documentation helps you understand this and also how to use the restore facility if you need to.

Another thing I would say is that one person that I helped found that they had a problem with a conflict with another program. The operating system was Vista so this may have had a bearing. I don't know why it happened but there you are. If you run into a problem then it would be best to uninstall it.
