Hello all. Long time reader, first time poster here.

Completely throwing myself upon your mercy because I have ran out of options completely. I was unfortunate enough to run across this damned keylogger on a website which hosts gaming guilds/clans forums so I did the first thing an idiot like myself would do in this situation: I ran a system restore to the day before.

Thinking that would solve my problem, but not being that "Stupid", I decided it would be best to be sure the thing has gone so I ran AVG free, Malwarebytes, Spybot and SUPERantispyware (along with ATF cleaner) And the results were as follows:

AVG Free: Found 4 in the Sound Volume Information (2 Trojan Agent.AOJP which were moved to the Virus vault and 2 Win32/Cryptor which were deleted)

Malwarebytes: Found 3 - 1 trojan Downloader and 2 Trojan Fake alerts, all in the Sound Volume Information and all Quarantined and deleted successfully.

Spybot found: Nothing.

Superantispyware found: nothing.

So why am I posting here? My problems should be over right? WRONG. My innate paranoia is playing up. Now, in my mind (when it comes to computer problems) Ive done all the right stuff and the viruses should be gone, nothing to worry about. But in reality I do a lot of business online and really cannot afford my credit card details being stolen and used by some guy in Tokyo to fund his Sumo Wrestler dream.

So I am throwing myself at your mercy, my Hijackthis file is below. Help! (whimpers)

Oh and, if you can help at all, dumb it down a little, I can be absolutely stupid when it comes to computer stuff.

Hi again.

So, it has come to my attention (thanks to a work-buddy) that my first post didnt really clarify what I need help with, so rather than editing my post which im sure you've already read and thought "...What?", i've decided to try and explain what the problem is and what kind of help I would like.

The Win32/Cryptor keylogger I had appears to have gone. None of the programs I listed on the first post has picked anything up in the various other scans I have done since posting here. However, the keylogger itself is still shown in my AVG Resident Shield Detection history. Now whilst this may just be documenting the fact that I had the keylogger in the first place, my own paranoia is telling me it could still be there somewhere but hidden.

Reguardless of any other problems my HJT log shows at this time, I need (Your professional) assurance that I am currently keylogger free so I can continue my trading business online. So I ask you; is there some program or any other way to confirm that this Keylogger has been removed from my system?

I am very sorry if you believe I am wasting your time and thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Hello Suno, and welcome to Geeks to go. :)
Sorry about the delay.

Lets get a fresh look at your computer.

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

Hello Suno,

I thought adding them in two separate posts would help with your eyes

Thanks :)

Please download the OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Reg
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{017b85ca-b102-11dd-9cd6-0013d3b693c0}]

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [emptytemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the "Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

  • 1 - Flash Drive Disinfector
    Download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs from >here< and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.
  • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
  • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
  • Reboot your computer when done.
Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder...it will help protect your drives from future infection.

Hello Suno,

How do you understand these things?

A lot of training, I learned how to do these things from the school here. Here is a link if you would like to know more. :)
http://www.geekstogo...hers-t2792.html

STEP 1
  • Please start Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and update it.
  • To update please do this, click Update and then click Check for Updates.
  • It will now install any updates it finds.
  • Once it is done updating please click Scanner and then click "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.

STEP 2
Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner
  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure the following is checked.
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In your next reply please have these logs.
The Malwarebytes log
And the Kaspersky log
Kaspersky Online Scanner 7 version: 7.0.25.0
Program database last update: Wednesday, December 17, 2008 20:42:06
Scan settings
Scan using the following database extended
Scan archives yes
Scan mail databases yes
Scan area My Computer
C:\
E:\
F:\
G:\
H:\
I:\
Scan statistics
Threat name 0
Infected objects 0
Suspicious objects 0
Duration of the scan 01:14:32
No malware has been detected. The scan area is clean.
The selected area was scanned.
However, the strangest thing happened whilst scanning with Malwarebytes. Usually, performing a quick scan would take upto 30 minutes to complete, but the first scan I did took 4 minutes and scanned 50978 objects. Thinking this was a little bit odd, I scanned again and it lasted 1 minute 35 seconds and scanned 51093 objects. The third scan I did was the one I quoted in this post which lasted 2 minuets 31 seconds and scanned 51207. Is that strange? Or am I just being paranoid? :)
Hello Suno,
Is that strange? Or am I just being paranoid?
It is strange, but when I do the quick scans it will do the same with me, some will be faster and some slower.
Hello Suno,
Your logs look clean. :)
Just a few more things to do.
Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.
Please download OTCleanIt and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double-click OTCleanIt.exe
  • Click the CleanUp! button to begin removing tools used to clean your computer
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, please select Yes
Please remove any leftover tools used to clean your computer.
Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.
3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
[/list]
System Restore will now be active again.
The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
1. Spywareguard: Is realtime protection from spyware.
2. Spywareblaster: Helps protect against any bad ActiveX from installing on your computer.
3. SuperAntiSpyware: Use this program to help remove any spyware that may have gotten on your computer.
4. FireFox: This is a great alternate browser over Internet Explorer. Firefox is much more secure then Internet Explorer and also has a bulilt in pop up blocker.
5. ATF Cleaner: This program cleans out your temporary files. This is a great tool that can help speed your computer up.
6. Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)
7. Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein
Ok, done all that. :)
So do you believe I am free from viruses/keyloggers and that it should be safe to continue trading online? (It never hurts to ask, just to be sure :) )
