retry and copy and paste the below line
chkdsk /f
there is a space between the k and the /
it will tell you it can't run at this time and do you want to schedule it for the next bootup
type Y then enter...reboot and let it run. It will do 3 test and should not take to long. If it finds errors it will show them as it is working. When it's done it will reboot the system and you can get back into windows and post the result of testing the software

This next chkdsk scan will take alittle longer. It will test 5 areas and is more able to find and fix problems.

I just realized in the original post where I asked about running the chkdsk scans that i also asked about the sfc /scannow
Did that scan get done? Let me know as that one will dig deeper then the others and it checks windows file system for any corrupted files and replaces them if needed.

Go Here and follow the drop down windows to check and see if you have a newer driver available for your video card. I am checking the scannow log and will let you know if it found anything. You want a driver thats newer then 8/28/07

The new drivers have been installed. Still can't open the .jar file

I did that first, that only installs the jar, you still have to execute it as a jar file even installing it with the exe
I still have the other problem of not being able to use java with IE too

IE is another problem that if you can, download Firefox from the link in my signature. Once installed try it and see if java is still a issue.
Firefox is faster and more secure then IE. You can import all your IE favorites to Firefox's bookmarks and not lose anything. If Firefox works with Java then the problem is IE and you may have to uninstall it, take it back to a older version or update it to IE*
if all that fails then Firefox would be the way to go. I use Firefox and have IE8
I find Firefox can run sites that IE has problems with. The other nice thing is that Firefox updates allot faster then IE. You will still need IE for windows updates to download

Just to clarify. When did the problem with IE start? Was it happening before you downloaded and attempted to install this program?
