I have a very similar problem to the topic at http://www.geekstogo...on-t225836.html.

My computer became very sluggish Sunday night. Hard to do anything without disabling most services. When shutting down computer, I now receive a ApUsbPnP error. A search for this brings me to this forum.

Along the way, my McAfee install became corrupted and I could not do a scan. Have since done a uninstall/reinstall. A scan does not detect any virus, although I can only scan several folders at a time before my computer becomes non-responsive. My boot file (hal.dll) also became corrupted and required a repair.

I have run the "System File Checker" as suggested in the thread above. This did not show any issues.

I could really use some help here! Thank you!

I should have mentioned that I have followed the instructions on the Malware and Spyware Cleaning Guide. Originally there were 31 viruses found. I was unable to complete Step 2 (scan for viruses), because my computer is so sluggish.

I then did a XP Pro repair/reinstall to see if I could improve performance. This helped some, but I still have non-stop disk activity, (although no network activity). CPU activity is currently 70-80% "System Idle Processes" and about 20% McShield.exe

Should I go back through the guide again to generate log files to view or should I included the log files from before I did the reinstall? Thank you.
