I have removed a virus, repaired OS Windows XP and the computer will not completely boot I receive a window "Windows Product Activation" Red dot with x "A problem has prevented Windows from accurately checking the status of the license for this computer (which has a legal copy ). To proceed your copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft. Do you want to activate Windows now yes or No. If i check yes the screen becomes blue with mouse arrow on screen and freezes there. Can anyone help??

Boot into Safe Mode (not Safe Mode with Networking).
Uninstall Internet Explorer 8. You can do this from Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs, or by going to C:\windows\ie8\ and in the SPuninst folder there is a file you can run that does the same job as Control Panel.
After removing Ie8, restart the computer. Activation should now work.

Which is why I said not to use that option.
Boot in normal Safe Mode to remove IE8. You don't need the networking.

See above. Windows repair install leaves ie6 installed. Previously installed ie8 causes corruption of IE.
Install IE8

Worked for me
