Could you re-install please and see if it updates.. You have been getting windows updates ?

I received 1 windows update but haven't installed it yet. I will reinstall norton

Installed norton Internet Security 2011. Ran liveupdate but it failed to complete. It said "Unable to connect to the Norton LiveUpdate server. Please check your internet connection.

whats wierd is it looks like I can ping ip adress such as 204.145.81.68 and the like but not adresses like google.com or yahoo.com. It's like it will only read the numbers.

OK a possible error area
To view the Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog box
1.Right-click My Network Places , and then click Properties .
2.Right-click the connection that you want to view, and then click Properties .
3.Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) , and then click Properties .
4.Click Advanced , and then click the DNS tab.
Let me know if there are any numbers in the highlighted area

I can get to that ip adress 204.145.81.68 thru IE but it looks very stripped down, no pictures just text.
Also, no numbers under the DNS tab. There is another tab called Options and under that there is a box with TCI/IP filtering. you can select that and hit properties. Is there anything there to look at? its currently not enabled and set to permit only for the 3 options.

OK that is not like my VM
Go to start > run and type cmd.exe
At the command prompt in the box that appears, type ipconfig and press enter.
This should bring up the basic settings of your network.
Copy yhe data to notepad for attachment here
Look for the 'Default Gateway' and type this number into the address bar of your web browser.
Does that give you access to your router

yep. i can access my router.
Whats crazy is I can access Google thru IE if I put in their ip adress instead of their domain name.
