When you start the computer, do you still get a "found New Hardware" at bottom right of the screen?   If yes, > right click and follow the prompts.

You must do the following using IE.

Please run the Microsoft Driver tool.

> Click Scan, > When complete, on the top Menu, > click Backup, > follow the prompts. when complete, > Tick all the boxes with an X, then,

At the bottom right of the window, > click Download, when complete,

Create a manual restore point, name "driver updates"

On the Update tool window,  > click the first Setup button and follow the prompts, when complete, work down the screen until finished all the set-ups, > close the tool, Close all open windows, > restart the computer.   Please report results.

How does the system run?

What drivers do I click on?

I am on backup and once I click on the big green backup button I get a window that says "no drivers selected"?

Do I pick both? Which are "modems and system devices"?

That is a bummer, I am sure it used to be a free tool, my apologies.   shut down the program and I will get back to you with another method.

When you start  the computer, do you get the found new hardware wizard?

OK, thanks.

Please use IE and go to the link.   Run the Dell quick scan, click the Run Diagnostic follow the prompts to see what is found.

OK.

First, is the troubleshooter correct?   Do you have more than one Optical drive? if yes and one does not work, carry out the suggestion, then,

Run the Diagnostic again, this time selecting the Complete radio button.

I will get to the sound.

I won't be about till later so you can try running the following troubleshooter.
Go to start, > Help and Support, > (lower left of the window that opens) click,  Fixing a Problem, > (top of the next window that opens) click, Troubleshooting a Problem

Then > on the bottom of right window, > click, List of Troubleshooters, in the window that opens, on the right side, > scroll down and click on > Sounds, then follow the prompts.
