Hi.

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. Today, all my USB ports and Mouse stop operating suddently. I plug my mouse in another computer and it is good. Also, when I restart and login Fedora, all USB and Mouse are good.
Could you suggest some solutions?
Thanks.

Hello anhnha

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode or a system restore point that is before the issue started?

Safe Mode = restart the computer and keep tapping the F8 key, what happens.

System restore point/s and other options see here

Let us know how you get on.

Check out in Device Manager, if the USB drivers are there. Try reinstalling them. In worst case it might be the trouble with motherboard, but good changes are Windows is glitching for some reason

Please provide information about your computer, this includes is it a notebook or desktop, is it a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if it is a brand name provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the MB, providing these details will enable us to better assist you.

I tried safe mode but I didn't know what to do then.   :upset:

Only the bare minimum of drivers are installed when you boot into Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking, in this instance the generic Windows USB drivers will be installed which should allow the USB ports to be used, if they still do not function it suggests either a hardware problem or the USB ports being disabled in the BIOS.

Had you made any hardware or software changes just before the issue happened, when you boot into Safe Mode with Networking check the Windows update history to see if any Microsoft updates were installed just before the problem first occurred.

It is a laptop, Dell Inspiron  N4010, TAG: 10XKTN1.

Actually, there is no hardware change. However, I installed a lot of software. This problem happened long time ago (about two months) but I don't know why it works again.
Just before the issue, I remember that there are some pop up asking install something and I installed them without looking what they are. Also, there is some warnings AVG (anti virus software). I deleted the file that causing the warning and I don't remember what it is.

I just boot into Safe Mode again and the problem is exactly as what I said above. At first, the mouse works for some second until derivers are installed. I think it is not a hardware problem because it works well in Fedora.

We need some further information about the hardware and software configuration, download then run Speccy and post the resultant url for us, details here

Did you continue using the computer as you normally would but in Safe Mode as that was what I was suggesting, if you did not, please restart the notebook in Safe Mode with Networking and use it as you normally would to see if the issue is present, FYI, no third party drivers are installed in Safe Mode, only Windows own generic drivers.

Can I ask that when you have something further to add while waiting for me to reply that you continue using the edit tab so that nothing you post is overlooked, this can happen when your replies are on separate pages.

 Yes. I did try both in Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking as you said.

If I uninstalled all drivers and restart the computer as mentioned above, the mouse works until drivers are installed automaticallly again.

If I don't uninstall drivers and restart the computer, mouse doesn't work at all.

  • Please download WVCheck by Artellos from one of the mirrors below;

    Artellos.com (exe)
    Artellos.com (zip)

  • After the download, run WVCheck.exe
  • As indicated by the prompt, This program can take a while depending on your hard drive space.
  • Once the program is done, copy the contents of the notepad file as a reply.

You are welcome and thanks for the follow up.

As the computer has not been kept up to date for almost 6 months I suggest that you check that it is free of malware, this is not something that I can help you with but I can point you in the right direction;

Please read the 'Start Here' topic found here. With these self-help tools you have a high chance of fixing the problems on your own. If you are still having problems after following Step 3 of the guide, continue with Step 4 and 5 and post in the Malware Forum. If you are unable to run any programs, Please create a topic stating what you have tried so far and that you are unable to run any programs. Also, Please do NOT post the logs in this thread.

I hope that you do not need to start a topic on the malware forums but by using the self help guide you will at least know whether you need to or not.
