I have Word 97 installed on 2 laptops. One is running Vista and the other Windows 7. Files that were created with Windows 7 have the docx extension and won't open with Vista. The Windows 7 in inoperable. What can I do?

Word 97 and 2000 and 2003 saves/reads files in the format.doc
The file format .docx is used by later versions of Word. ie Word 2007 onwards.
Microsoft have issued a file converter for this exact issue and it does a pretty good job on the conversions (but obviously functions that were introduced in later versions of Word will be converted "as best they can" for use in earlier versions.
You can download the instructions and the file format converter, its called Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack, from here:
http://www.pcworld.c...le-formats.html
its free:
Post back and let us know if this does the trick for you.
