This is just the latest error message in a string of issues. Laptop is a Dell XPS Win 7 with both HDD and SSD. Began with getting pop-ups saying "Intel Rapid Start can't find the drive" (or something similar - the story is a bit vague.) Then, Chrome browser wouldn't load and Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Premier Elements would open but then close. Next, we got an error message that Teredo Tunneling driver had a problem (which we were able to repair by uninstalling and rebooting.) Chkdsk wouldn't run, and now both Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer won't run so that we can't access Control Panel or Device Manager, or connect to the internet to update antivirus. (Before things got to this point, AVG had found two Trojans.) And . . . belonging to a teenager . . . the laptop was never backed up. I fear I'm looking at a clean install. Any help would be most appreciated.

If you bought that laptop "refurbished", the first thing you should had done is to restore it to its factory settings. It would have ensured that you were using a fresh Windows installation with no issues and would had made future troubleshooting way easier. I can try to assist you to troubleshoot all of these issues one by one, but without knowing the real past of that computer, it could be hard. Let me know what you want to do

Hi Aura, thanks for the quick reply to my post and offer to help. I've had good experience with Geeks to Go in the past and this was my first place to go for help.
The laptop was a new build from Dell bought Oct. '13 with the following specs:
- XPS 15
- i7 3rd Gen., 6M cache, 3.2 GHz
- 8 GB dual channel DDR3 1600 MHz
- NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M graphics w/ 2 GB GDDR5 VRAM
- 750 GB SATA HD
- 32 GB mSATA SSD
- Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit
- McAfee Total Protection
- Malwarebytes (run manually so as not to interfere w/ McAfee)
- AVG (run manually so as not to interfere w/ McAfee)
Let me know if there's anything else you need at this point.

- Download MiniToolBox and move it to your Desktop;
- Execute it by double-clicking on it;
- Check the "List Installed Programs" checkbox;
- Click on the Go button;
- Once the scan is complete, a log will open.
- Copy/paste (select the Notepad, press Ctrl + A then Ctrl + C to copy, and Ctrl + V to paste) the content of the output log in your next reply;

Sorry for the delayed response - the computer is so unstable that neither IE or Chrome would stay open. It took several tries even in Safe Mode to get the information.
The laptop is an XPS 15 L521x.

OK - both files were downloaded and got confirmation that installation was successful. However, still getting Intel Rapid Start Technology Manager has stopped working message on re-boot, and IE and Windows Explorer are still not working. Chrome is working, but is buggy, working intermittently.

- Download MiniToolBox and move the executable file to your Desktop;
- Execute MiniToolBox and check the following options:
- Flush DNS;
- Report IE Proxy Settings;
- Reset IE Proxy Settings;
- Report FF Proxy Settings;
- Reset FF Proxy Settings;
- List content of Hosts;
- List Last 10 Event Viewer Errors;
- Once this is done, click on Go and wait for the scan to complete;
- Once the scan is complete, a log will open. Please copy/paste the content of the output log in your next reply;

Problems on top of problems: As soon as the window opens, Chrome stops working and closes. With IE not working, not sure what to do. I even tried copying the link to a new tab and window and typing it in manually, to no avail.
