This is the same that I installed yesterday, but I will try again since the utility seems to have fixed other things. Maybe the result will be better this time. Stand by for the news.....

 

RESULT:

"The installed version of Intel Network Connections is not supported for upgrades. you must uninstall is before installing this version"

I successfully installed another version I think. Checking to see how I can uninstall the other one.

I was unable to download from the pcpitstop site, I use that site often when helping people. This is the first time I have had issues with it.......... If it were my machine, I would check with a usb device to make sure that it is not issue with windows. Also you can check with the Kaspersky boot disk, it has a built in web browser, this way if it does not work you will know it is hardware for sure.

I am not suggesting you run a scan or anything, if the browser works then you know hardware is good. If you can connect with a usb device then you know windows is ok. That would leave only one solution.......... Bad Lan  driver.

Copy that. The install of the Intel drivers went back to where I started - freezes on connection. 

 

I will look for a USB LAN or WAN adapter, seems like an easy check. Is the Kapersky boot disk just a lightweight OS with a browser?

It has similiar functions of an OS, but no it is malware removal tool, You are not in need of malware removal, but the disc does have a browser that operates outside of windows, which you need to test to see if it is a hardware issue......... Narrowing down the processes all I can do from here.

1. Download the portable version of Windows Repair (All In One) from here, Windows Repair (All In One). (Make sure you have your computer running in a clean boot state BEFORE running repairs. If you need assistance with performing a clean boot then follow the instructions here, How to perform a clean boot in Windows)

2. Download the portable zipped folder to your desktop.

3. Extract the contents of the zipped folder, and then right click on the Repair_Windows.exe file and select run as administrator.

4. After the program opens, click on the Step 3 tab and click the Do It button to have the program run Check Disk on the file system. Screenshot.

5. After the computer finishes running Check Disk, start the program again and proceed to Step 4.

6. Click on the Step 4 tab and click on the Do It button to allow the program to run the System File Checker to find and fix any corrupt Windows files. Screenshot.

7. After SFC finishes, proceed to the Step 5 tab.

8. On the Step 5 tab go ahead and create a new system restore point before starting the repair by clicking on the Create button under the System Restore area. Screenshot.

9. Once that is done click on the Start Repairs tab.

10. On the Start Repairs tab click on the Start button and select Run when prompted. Screenshot.

11. The Windows Repairs window will open. Now ensure that ONLY the checkboxes in the program are checked as indicated below:

 

 

As far as what you can not see checkmark boxes 26, 27 and 33

 

 

12. Then when those checkboxes are selected, click on the checkbox that says Restart System when Finished.

13. Now click on the Start button to start the repair process.

14. The process could take some time so please be patient.

15. After the repair process finishes, the computer will be rebooted.

16. See if there is any difference after performing the above steps.

I booted with Kaspersky disc. It could not configure the NICs. Not looking good for the hardware I guess.

There are some other issues that may be related. An ISA card recently stopped working (yes, ISA), and a PCI USB card keeps the pc from booting. I wonder if something is wrong with the PCI bus. It seems plausible that a PCI problem could create all of those issues.

When you get the chance install a usb wireless device, that is where we are right now. If the internet does work, then I suggest an update of drivers with this tool.

True. It (the SBC) was manufactured in 2010 I think, not ancient by industrial standards but not new either. If the networking never comes alive I can live with it. The bigger issue is whether or not the PCI/ISA bus have some sort of a problem that would produce these issues. There is a proprietary ISA card that is part of a machine vision subsystem that is not working. It was an early 90's design so I cannot replace it easily. The support people say the ISA card is bad and I should find a replacement, which is difficult and expensive. It just happened to stop working at about the same time that the PCI USB card stopped working and the networking as well. I have no other ISA slot PC's to test the card so I cannot confirm. Without the ISA card working, the entire machine is a door stop. Without networking, it is just an inconvenience.

 

The machine sat off for about 3 years, wondering if there is any chance the BIOS could have some corruption that could effect the operation of the PCI controller. It is tough to troubleshoot this old stuff. With my new machines, if something is acting up, it just gets replaced and I move on. This issue requires more critical thinking skills.

If the machine sat for 3 years then re-seat any and all hardware, also change the CMOS battery. Dusting with canned air throughout the process.

I cannot believe it. I re-seated the SBC on the backplane and the RAM. All problems went away. Networking functions, the weird ISA card....its alive. Wow, I was looking in ALL the wrong places!

I would also suggest CCleaner.

download and install Unchecky. This software will prevent unwanted items, being installed by you unknowingly.


Step 2: Ccleaner

Now lets get to the business. Go ahead and install Ccleaner. Now that you have the program installed go ahead and run the cleaner function.


Now that you have cleaned out some temp files, lets go ahead and disable all of the items starting up with your machine except your antivirus. To do this you will need to click on tools then start up select each item then disable.



Now that you have disabled those un-needed start ups lets go into the settings, we will have Ccleaner run when your machine boots, so that you will never have to worry about cleaning temp files again.

To do this:

• Hit options.
• Settings.
• Place a tick to run Ccleaner when the computer starts.

Now go to the advanced tab, and select close program after cleaning, now run the cleaner again this will close Ccleaner.

Remove old USB-phantom drivers.
 

• Download drivecleanup.zip to your desktop.
• Unzip it on your desktop.
• CLICK HERE to see if you are running 32-bit or 64-bit for Windows.
• Once the determination has been made, open either the 32-bit or 64-bit folder.
• Remove all usb plugs from your machine, except your printer, mouse and keyboard.
• Right Click the .exe inside of the folder, then run as administrator.
• A command prompt window will open, telling you what has been removed upon completion.
