8400gs not working on hp 5800dc

Hi,

I have hp 5800dc microtower I have been trying to install nvidia geforce 8400gs and it does not show any display however when i plug vga cable to onboard graphic card it shows display and i can even boot in windows while the graphic card fan is spinning i have resetted bios and everything but nothing seems to work however graphic card works fine in dell tower.. and pci express slot is also fine i had it checked with my friends graphics card and it worked fine

 

Can you guys help me please or suggest me which graphic card i should buy or how will 8400gs work?

The specs for your computer here show that it has a 300W PSU which is what the 8400GS video card requires however the card also requires 20 amps on the +12V rail and the PSU may not provide this, I would however suggest that you do the following in case it is a software as opposed to a hardware problem;

 

With the add on video card removed from the MB;

 

Create a new system restore point.

Install the drivers for the 8400GS video card.

Shut down the system, disconnect all power cords, press the case power button for 20 or so seconds to expel any residual charge, ground yourself on the case, fit the 8400GS video card, reassemble the computer and test.

Post back with an update for us.
