So I left my PC on while I went to work running nothing but when I got home the screen is black, fan isn't running, and my wifi card wasn't on. So I did disconnected all power for 15 minutes and rebooted buy the fan only starts for a second then turns off and the computer won't boot up. I have no idea what the issue is. This has never happened to me before. I have tried connected to an external tv but no picture is displayed so I know it's not the LCD screen. If you have any ideas I could try it would really help

The fact that your CPU cooling fan still spins hopefully means that your processor has not been fried and that something else is preventing the computer from booting up, the first thing that would normally be checked is the Ram, this is a rather difficult task with your model of computer I`m afraid and so much so that when new you would void any warranty by upgrading the Ram or HDD yourself instead of having an authorised technician do it, see page 65 of Removal and replacement procedures for Authorized Service Provider parts

 

Is the notebook covered by any warranty.

 

Have you tried using battery power only and vice versa removing the battery and using only the AC adapter, if so what was the outcome in both instances please.

I have actually recently upgraded my ram from 4gb to 8gb since I knew all my warranties where expired. I have experience being inside laptops that I have previously fixed up. I did try to put the 4gb ram stick back in to see if it would boot up but it still wouldn't. I also tried only booting up with my battery and only booting up with my power cord but neither worked aswell.

Has the computer worked at all since you tried the 8GB stick.

 

Is your computer one of the HP 15 models that has a service door on the base of the notebook for upgrading Ram, if yes, is this where you tried the stick of 8GB Ram or did it involve removing the keyboard to access a memory slot.

It worked for about 2-3 weeks after upgrading to the 8gb stick. I do NOT have a service door on the bottom so i had to do everything the hard way by taking the keyboard out. I still haven't been able to get it to turn on.

Couple of things to mention;

 

It is looking like the notebook needs to be dismantled and a close inspection done of the MB etc (but please see ** below first), as I mentioned in my reply #2 overheating and a system short can cause such behaviour as what you describe, overheating could be caused by a faulty cooling fan or as an outside chance a loose cooling fan cable, a system short can be caused by many things but the wireless device not working could be a sign that it could be faulty or its connection/s loose and possibly shorting out, I noted the following in the computers user manual;

 

To prevent an unresponsive system, replace the wireless module only with a wireless module authorized for use in the computer by the governmental agency that regulates wireless devices in your country or region. If you replace the module and then receive a warning message, remove the module to restore device functionality, and then contact support

 

 

 

and from page 52 of the user manual;

 

NOTE: If the WLAN antennas are not connected to the terminals on the WLAN module, the protective sleeves must be installed on the antenna connectors, as shown in the following illustration.

 

 

This guidance is provided to make people aware that any wireless device needs to be either connected or insulated properly if not used so as to avoid problems such as the wires shorting out.

If the behaviour was the same with the battery removed and the AC adaptor connected and likewise the battery in place but the AC adaptor disconnected it would point back to a system short but if the behaviour was any different such as the fan not moving at all when only one power source was connected then it could come down to a bad power supply such as the adaptor itself or the DC jack on the MB.

 

Before going to the trouble of dismantling anything I would suggest that you try another AC adaptor in case the present one is faulty and has not been charging up the battery,

Sorry about that. I was getting my MOBO tested at a computer shop and sadly it is dead. I appreciate the help and suggestions! I guess now its time to start saving up for the new desktop im making. I really appreciate the help!
