Getting the BSOD on old vista machine, windows will not open in reg or safe modes error code:

 

0x0000007b (0x80599BB0, 0xc000004, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

0x0000007b points to HDD problem or simply it could be the wrong mode set on BIOS, try to change the SATA mode options from IDE, AHCI, Raid,  try them all because this option must match the value set at time Windows was installed.

Not sure how to do that and the machine will not boot up windows

Post the brand and model of the machine, if custom made post the brand and model of the motherboard.

 

When you start the computer there is usually some message telling about pressing a key to access the BIOS this works independently if you can access Windows or not.

got to set up (f10) - SATA displays:

 

Disabled

SATA 1

SATA 1+2 (this is the option currently checked)

Not that option, do you have any other option about the Hard Disk controller?

 

The options are different from machine to machine, sometimes they name it compatible, advanced mode...

There is no image attached! If you don't have any similar settings then probably the BIOS doesn't have options to change that and in that case the problem is something else.

 

Do you have the Windows Vista DVD? You need to boot from the DVD and select Repair Your Computer to access the Command Prompt, from there run a disk check by typing:

chkdsk /R /X c:

Yep there is no option to change in your case.

 

Do you have access to another computer? with a CD/DVD burner?
