I have the Downloads folder appearing in both ThisPC and also inside my Documents folder.

I would like to remove the Downloads folder from inside the Documents folder, but every time I try to delete it, i get the error message which says that the folder is open somewhere else (attached image).

Can you give me any advice? I would like to see the Downloads folder only in ThisPC, not inside Documents.

Thanks!

I also attach a copy of the Downloads folder which is inside Documents folder.  (It has a dot on the name; not sure what that means?)

We can`t tell from your attached screenshot whether or not there is anything in the Download folder in Documents, is there or is it empty, if empty and not using up any resources just forget about it.

You need to be careful with what you are doing when it comes to deleting apparent duplicates and fwiw the folder will be open in at least one other place that comes straight to mind and that is File Explorer.

The file in This PC is the original and the one in Documents has been created either by an action that you carried out or by something that you have downloaded or installed, you cannot delete the folder which is lucky for you because if you were able to both folders would be deleted and this because the documents folder is only a mirror of the true folder.

Did you check File Explorer to see if you also had the same folder there.

If it annoys you to the point that you just want it gone one solution would be to back up the folder to the cloud or another storage device, delete the folder on the computer and then copy back across to the Downloads folder the original.

I have solved the problem!

I booted in safemode, Windows 10, and simply deleted the "new" folder of Downloads that is inside Documents folder.  Thank you.

Glad you are sorted and thanks for letting us know

Bit odd is that as the only difference between safe mode and full boot is that only the most important of drivers get loaded, anything that you can delete in safe mode would normally also be able to be deleted in full boot using File Explorer and this the reason why I asked in my reply #5 " Did you check File Explorer to see if you also had the same folder there. "
