Appears you are missing the Windows Update service.

 

Download the attached wuauserv.zip file

 

 wuauserv.zip   1.48KB   192 downloads

 

Right click on it and Extract All.  Extract.  Right click on wuauserv.reg and Merge.  (ignore the warning)

 

Do you now have a Windows Update service?

 

Will it start?

 

 

Try attaching the dism.log

 

First click on More Reply Options
Then scroll down to where you see
Choose File and click on it.  Point it at the file and hit Open.
Now click on Attach this file.
 

 

If the forum software doesn't like dism.log rename it to dism.txt

Yes, I have Windows Update .... running ...manual (which is what I prefer, because after each update windows mess with some drivers of mine).
But FYI, I had to reboot in order to have back this service.
 

I tried attaching the file again after renaming the .log to .txt.
It still refuses. Just above the Attach Files there is a red warning saying:

Upload Skipped (This file was too big to upload)
 

Do you want me to to try to compress it with RAR or something?
Or, is there somewhere else I can upload it?
Any other ideas?

You can delete the current dism.log then rerun dism.  It should create a new log which should be much smaller.  Dism might even complete this time since it now has Windows Update. 

 

Speaking of updates.  You are running 1803.  We are now at 1909 so you really need to update to the latest version.
