CONCLUSION
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Your system seems to be having difficulty handling real-time audio and other tasks. You may experience drop outs, clicks or pops due to buffer underruns. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates.
LatencyMon has been analyzing your system for  0:01:56  (h:mm:ss) on all processors.

Reported CPU speed (WMI):                             30 MHz
Reported CPU speed (registry):                        30 MHz

Note: reported execution times may be calculated based on a fixed reported CPU speed. Disable variable speed settings like Intel Speed Step and AMD Cool N Quiet in the BIOS setup for more accurate results.

MEASURED INTERRUPT TO USER PROCESS LATENCIES
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The interrupt to process latency reflects the measured interval that a usermode process needed to respond to a hardware request from the moment the interrupt service routine started execution. This includes the scheduling and execution of a DPC routine, the signaling of an event and the waking up of a usermode thread from an idle wait state in response to that event.

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs):   1758.20
Average measured interrupt to process latency (µs):   11.466737

Highest measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs):       1720.70
Average measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs):       4.181631

 REPORTED ISRs
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Interrupt service routines are routines installed by the OS and device drivers that execute in response to a hardware interrupt signal.

REPORTED DPCs
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
DPC routines are part of the interrupt servicing dispatch mechanism and disable the possibility for a process to utilize the CPU while it is interrupted until the DPC has finished execution.

 REPORTED HARD PAGEFAULTS
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk while the process is interrupted and blocked from execution.

NOTE: some processes were hit by hard pagefaults. If these were programs producing audio, they are likely to interrupt the audio stream resulting in dropouts, clicks and pops. Check the Processes tab to see which programs were hit.

Process with highest pagefault count:                 backgroundtaskhost.exe

Total number of hard pagefaults                       572
Hard pagefault count of hardest hit process:          294
Number of processes hit:                              16

OK.  Go back into msconfig, Services tab.  Check the box that hides Windows Services and then uncheck all of the rest (With the exception of any anti-virus program you may have).  Apply, OK and Reboot.  Any better?

Let's get some more info:

Download the FREE version of Speccy:

https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy

Download, Save and Install it.  Tell it you do not need CCLEANER.    Run Speccy.  When it finishes (the little icon in the bottom left will stop moving),
File, Save as Text File,  (to your desktop) note the name it gives. OK.  Open the file in notepad and delete the line that gives the serial number of your Operating System.
(It will be near the top,  10-20  lines down.) Save the file.  Attach the file to your next post.  Attaching the log is the best option as it is too big for the forum.  Attaching is a multi step process.

First click on More Reply Options
Then scroll down to where you see
Choose File and click on it.  Point it at the file and hit Open.
Now click on Attach this file.

Let's get a benchmark:

Click on Free Download.  Save the file then right click and Run As Admin.  Close all programs and pause your antivirus before starting.

When it finishes it will open a browser.  Copy the URL and paste it into a Reply.

Do I leave those services unchecked while I proceed to your next steps?

No if that fixed it then go back into msconfig and check about 1/2 of the services OK and reboot.  If the problem comes back the problem is one of the checked services so uncheck about 1/2  the ones you checked and repeat until you find the service or services which cause the problem.

The problem service: Killer Network Service.

I have Defender real time protection turned on, so Malwarebytes is frequently popping up to tell me that it's real time protection is not turned on. Rogue Killer is making popups asking me to purchase it. How can I stop these popups?

Apparently Killer is meant to give priority to online games.  You can Search for services.msc and find Killer then right click and select Properties.  Then change Startup Type: to Disabled.  OK.

Uninstall Rogue Killer.  Should be in Settings, Apps.

MalwareBytes used to have an option when you installed it to not use the anti-virus (actually there was a free trial that you could opt for the last time I installed it) sounds like you have installed the free trial.  I'd uninstall it.  Maybe reinstall it and pay attention to the options?

It was already set to Disabled.

Uninstall Rogue Killer.  Should be in Settings, Apps.....Done. This doesn't have anything to do with Killer Network Service, does it?

I went to uninstall it and it offered me a Free version, which I took. I'll see how that goes.

Is my PC currently free of malware/viruses? I'd like to plug my external drive in and run a backup.

How do I get this website to quote individual sentences instead of the whole response as it did above?

Probably unchecking a service in msconfig changes it to disable.

Rogue Killer is not part of Killer Network. That's from intel.

Your PC should be clean unless you've picked something up since we ran ESET, MBAR & RogueKiller.

You might want to uninstall FRST before you backup.

Time to clean up:
If we used FRST to clean your PC:

right click on FRST.exe or FRST64.exe (whichever you used) and rename it to uninstall.exe.  Then right click on uninstall.exe and Run as Admin.

If we installed Speccy it needs to be uninstalled.  Process Explorer, VEW, AdwCleaner, JRT  and their logs and Speccy's log can just be deleted.

As far as quoting a line you just have to copy (highlight and Ctrl + c) and paste (Ctrl + v)

and start the post by typing in the box at the bottom.  Do not hit Reply as that quotes the previous post.

I took care of the ones you listed. I'm still seeing several programs that I think you had me download. See attached. Just delete these?

Latency Monitor can be uninstalled

I think you can just delete the others.

I uninstalled Latency Monitor.

Aren't some of these files shown in the snips above the drivers I was unsuccessful in updating?

Killer Ethernet Performance Driver Suite

Realtek High Definition Audio Driver

On Page 1, you posted

I don't suppose Dell has a newer Ethernet driver for you?  Perhaps it will install if you first uninstall the old driver?

For the zip I'd try the setup first then the other if the setup doesn't work.

Are you able to get definite answers on these issues? I am concerned about taking a chance and possibly messing something up.

Also, I found these Killer programs in Add/Remove Programs, if that helps.

Sorry I missed your previous reply.

Without experimenting by uninstalling the old driver (with a copy of the latest driver from the support web page already downloaded in case you lose connectivity if the newest driver doesn't work) then installing the latest driver I don't have any way to tell if it would help.  However since we have found the culprit there's no real need to replace the Ethernet driver.

As far as the three Killer programs you found, the top two have recent dates so probably it was the update to one or both that caused the problem.
