Hello again Phill,

I think I have managed to install the new memory okay. As expected, the main challenge was in actually getting the side panel off: I was close to giving up as it did not want to budge! Also actually getting under my desk to turn the electricity off - my knees are no good these days and I cannot kneel down. Getting old is no fun!

Bye for now.

Hello again,

The extra speed of the new RAM is really great, everything is just so much faster!

I have not come across any other problems since installing the RAM, but it will be a while before I can say with real certainty that the problems with the profile loading have been fixed as it was very sporadic and often did not happen for up to almost two weeks. Will just have to wait and see on that one.

A couple of questions if I may........ Firstly, when I installed the new RAM and tried to start up the computer again, it took me straight into the BIOS. Does that normally happen? I was not sure what I was supposed to do so just exited and the computer then went on to start normally. I checked and the new RAM was showing up okay in settings.

Secondly, I remember when I ran Mini Toolbox seeing that it said something about the Windows defender scan being stopped. If I go into Windows Security it does not seem to be flagging any problems. Any idea why it said that?

Many thanks for your help,

Chris.

Pleased to hear that you are happy with the new RAM and that things have been okay with the profile issue.

What you saw was the BIOS resetting and nothing to worry about.

What you mention regarding Windows Defender, that can sometimes happen when another program either causes the PC to turn off or to cause a conflict, that is why you should not have multiple AVs installed, your problem/s for example could have been caused by Spybot, manually running a Defender scan should put your mind at ease.

You are welcome and you know where we are if you need us.
