I am installing a new Lenovo laptop and removed my old hard drive from my old system that crashed...When I first connected this adapter to my desktop it showed the hard drive and files.  Now that I have purchased a new win 11 laptop, I tried to access the files to transfer to a flash drive so I could install them on this new laptop.  I showed the hdrive but it was partitioned into 2 sections.  It showed to be disc 2 but no drive letter. the first partition showed about 13 gb healthy (recovery partition) and the other shows healthy (active Primary partition 686.79) new volume.

I thought I needed to attach a drive letter to it and now I cant access my 13 gb.

I appreciate help...

Can you upload an expanded screenshot of Disk Manager for us.

Access Disk Management via Run.

Press the Windows+R keys to open Run, type diskmgmt.msc in the empty box then press OK.

To capture and post a screenshot;

Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start...all programs...accessories...paint....left click in the white area ...press CTRL + V...click on file...click on save...save it to your desktop...name it something related to the screen your capturing... BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG ...otherwise it may be to big to upload... then after typing in any response you have... click on browse...desktop...find the screenshot..select it and click on the upload button...then on the lower left...after it says upload successful...click on add reply like you normally would.

Screenshot instructions are provided to assist those that may read this topic but are not yet aware of the “how to”.

That is rather odd but can I first ask which of the drives are you referring to when you say  " It showed the hdrive but it was partitioned into 2 sections.  It showed to be disc 2 but no drive letter. " reason I ask is because if you are using ab adaptor the drive should be showing as an external but only drive H: is.

Can I also asked if this is connected to the Lenovo and what are the capacities of the drives concerned.

sorry for the confusion...drive H is and external drive that is attached to my desktop pc which showed in disk mgmt on my pc instead of the lenovo...I will attach it to the lenovo and do again if need be.

the disc 2 is the drive in question and it is a 750 gb Toshiba attached to a usb adapter.  I was trying to download pics and docs from it to the external 1 tb drive.

pleas advise if I need to resubmit the screen shot

No worries but going from installing a new Lenovo laptop to a desktop via an old system was rather confusing.

Please redo the screenshot with no external drive attached.

For clarity, is it a 1TB mechanical HDD that you are having problems with.

Is all the data on the drive moveable, all pictures and document etc but not programs that cannot be copied.

The problem hard drive is the (disk2) toshiba 750gb

I do realize that programs must be re-installed...I just wanted pics and docs copied and transferred

I will redo in about 1 hour...have a must do for wife first...lol

Thanks for the update/clarification.

Going back to your screenshot it looks like Windows was previously installed on this drive but has at some point been deleted or corrupted, this would affect other data that was on the same partition.

No rush with the pic, keeping the wife happy is always priority.

As I stated before, did I damage the large partition by applying a drive letter and making it active?  Also, my info is on the small partition (12 gb)  why can't I access that?

Your new screenshot is showing that the two partitions are now blank.
