Thank you. I ordered them and they will arrive right after Christmas.

I figured you were in the UK. Is there anything I can do while we wait, other than enjoy the holidays?

My flash drive arrived, so I do have that.

I appreciate the help.

Yes, we can get Windows 11 and the Dell system drivers clean installed, see the below;

From my reply #8;

We need you to provide this information, Dell are notoriously picky when it comes to drivers and so much so that they must be installed in a set order, see installing Dell drivers in the correct order info here once we have the correct PC info we can let you know what drivers will be required ** so that you can download and save them to something like a small capacity USB flashdrive, you are also going to need a 16GB or above flashdrive for downloading and saving a Windows 11 ISO to.

** This will avoid Dell foisting a load of bloatware on you.

Which flashdrive, it was mentioned that you would need two;

For drivers a small capacity drive the Dell Aurora 7 drivers from here Note: Dell does not support Windows 11 on your computer so you need to use Dells Windows 10 drivers.

For the Windows 11 ISO a 16GB or so drive and the Create Windows 11 Installation Media - Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO) for x64 devices here

The first three drivers that I would install are list in order below, stick to Dells own driver installation guide at the link provided for the storage and video drivers etc for the rest;

( 1 ) Intel Serial IO Driver Critical Chipset 19 Jul 2021

( 2 ) Intel Management Engine Firmware Update Utility Critical Chipset 12 Dec 2017

( 3 ) Intel Chipset Device Software Recommended Chipset 25 Mar 2020

Please answer the above that was asked, I don`t like second guessing, you can come unstuck by doing so  :oops:

There are a couple of things that you can do to improve the present set up but you ultimately need the new hardware and clean install of Windows and the Dell system drivers which  while we are on the subject of I need to add a fourth driver that I missed off the list, details below;

NVIDIA GeForce GT 7xx/GT 10xx/GTX 10xx/GTX 16xx/RTX 20xx Desktop DC Graphics Driver

Critical Video 10 Jan 2020

Do not download any GPU drivers direct from Nvidea, they are not intended to be used with your card and doing so will cause you problems.

Get rid of McAfee, you don`t need it and by not having it you are freeing up resources an getting rid of potential conflicts, Windows Defender is one of the best AVs and Firewalls btw, see my canned info below;

Windows 10 and 11 come with an improved Windows Defender, it offers the same real-time anti-virus/anti-malware protection as Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender also shares the same malware signature definitions as Microsoft Security Essentials, and Forefront Endpoint Protection. Technically, Microsoft Security Essentials has not been renamed Windows Defender, or combined with it in Windows 10 and 11.

If any AV product that you have is a paid for version you should always make sure that you have a copy of the product key kept somewhere safe just in case you ever wish to reinstall it.

McAfee product removal tool  (MCPR) here

Computers not in use for prolonged periods of time should be turned off.

Computers in constant use and used for gaming should never have the settings in red below that you have;

Power Profile

Active power scheme: Balanced
Hibernation: Disabled
Turn Off Monitor after: (On AC Power): 5 min
Turn Off Hard Disk after: (On AC Power): 20 min
Suspend after: (On AC Power): 15 min
Screen saver: Disabled

They should be set to Never.

Stay away from CCleaner.

Network

You are connected to the internet
Connected through: Killer Wireless-n/a/ac 1535 Wireless Network Adapter
Adapter Type: IEEE 802.11 wireless

For the best performance gaming rigs should be hardwired, wireless nine out of ten times sucks when gaming and especially when you have the likes of McAfee web advisor etc.

Highlighted in blue so that you do not miss it, entirely your choice whether you do or not but I strongly suggest that you come back here when the new hardware arrives so that we can help you get everything set up correctly + advise you on what you need and do not need, one of the things I noted that was installed Intel Optane stuff, no idea why its there but that was just one thing cluttering up things.

Likewise a Happy Christmas to you and yours santasmiley.png

All drivers on the one drive, 1GB would have been enough btw.

What about all the other stuff that I provided for you to do, you pressed me for things to do while you were waiting so I hope you've done everything  :whistling:

What about the new hardware, do you have it, have you done anything with it, fitted the new RAM etc.

it got postponed with the holiday mail or whatever.; I'll be working

on getting everything installed today and get back to you for the hardware.

Also got rid of the cccleaner and mcafee. turned windows defender back on.

Thank you!

I have also tried to do the power profile changes you suggested as

well.

in regards to the flash drives I purchased, they came in a set, my son needed them for Uni so I stole one for my job as well. No biggie, but thanks for the info!

when I am, installing things, do I do windows first or the 3 drivers you gave me first?

64GB is good as you can partition it  :thumbsup:

Under no circumstances should you let Windows update before you have correctly installed the four Dell drivers mentioned above and in the exact order listed, to reemphasise;

ok, since I don't want to "F" this up, the 4 dell drivers I do first, then install windows 11 installation media and disk image?

do I need to install the rest of the dell drivers, something like 25 of them or so? or am I good with just the 4?

In response to your reply #26, please see my canned info below for what needs to be done;

Once Windows has been clean installed you must then install first the MBs chipset drivers then the storage/SATA drivers and third the graphics drivers, the drivers can either come from a disk provided by the motherboard manufacturer ** or downloaded from their site and saved to a flash drive etc, this is a must and Windows should not be allowed to check for updates before it has been done as more often than not Windows installs the wrong drivers or in the incorrect order and this can cause all sorts of problems.
The reason why this procedure is so important, the chipset is what enables the MB to be able to communicate with all the hardware + are the first drivers that Windows looks for on boot.

** For OEM computers/notebooks such as Acer, Dell, HP and Lenovo etc you must only download drivers from their support page, OEMs may sometimes redirect users to a third party site such as AMD or Nvidea to obtain the latest drivers for their GPUs, this tends to be for high end gaming notebooks and desktops though.

You only need the four drivers that I have mentioned and for the reason already advised;

** This will avoid Dell foisting a load of bloatware on you.

The chipset driver has just downloaded without issue for me, I didn`t install it for obvious reasons.

Tip

If using a computer and not a mobile phone, please avoid adding multiple posts while waiting for us to reply to your last, edit your last post to include anything that you wish to add, this will ensure nothing gets overlooked which can sometimes happen if a thread has more than one page, it avoids filling up folks inbox and last but not least it amounts to bumping your thread which is not appropriate and will not get you a reply any quicker.
