BTW - the last couple of times I've closed down the Pc I've had a blue screen come up saying that the 'Task Host Window' is preventing shut down.  It's only up for 3 or 4 seconds and then it closes and the Pc follows suit.

Just thought you should know.

Regards

Paul

What does Task Host do?
Runs background processes like system updates and disk maintenance
Manages tasks from the Windows Task Scheduler
Handles system functions

Often it is running a Microsoft Update or just checking to see if you need an update.  Sometimes if you run the update Troubleshooter it will fix something and the Task Host delay will go away.

Settings, Update & Security, Troubleshoot, Additional Troubleshooters, Windows Update.  There have also been several updates in the past that cause this so make sure you have all of your updates.

Okay, I've done that and the blue screen hasn't appeared since.

Is there anything else you need me to do having reviewed my posts above or do you reckon it's sorted?

Regards

Paul

Time to clean up:
If we used FRST to clean your PC:

right click on FRST.exe or FRST64.exe (whichever you used) and rename it to uninstall.exe.  Then right click on uninstall.exe and Run as Admin.

If we installed Speccy or Latency Monitor it needs to be uninstalled.  Process Explorer, VEW, AdwCleaner, JRT  and their logs and Speccy's log can just be deleted.

Also make sure you have the latest versions of any adobe.com products you use like Shockwave, or Acrobat.    Be careful with Adobe.  They are fond of offering optional downloads like yahoo or Ask toolbars or that worthless McAfee Security Scan.  Go slow and uncheck the optional stuff.

Whether you use adobe reader, acrobat or fox-it to read pdf files you need to disable Javascript in the program.  There is an exploit out there now that can use it to get on your PC.  For Adobe Reader:  Start, All Programs, Adobe Reader, Edit, Preferences, Click on Javascript in the left column and uncheck Enable Acrobat Javascript.  OK Close program.  It's the same for Foxit reader except you uncheck Enable Javascript Actions.

Nothing seems to go straightforwardly!

I've reinstalled Acrobat and can't seem to open it.  I got it from the UK download and when I click on the shortcut I get nothing.  So I went into the folder and tried from there and got nothing.  So I right clicked and ran it as Admin and got the attached message box?

As for cleaning up, I seem to be left with ESETOnline Scanner and Procexp that I can't find in the programme list.

I'd appreciate your advice.

Paul

Sound like you might have the Android version of Acrobat.  I would uninstall it and try again with a new download.

Process Explorer is just a download.  It is not installed.  Just delete it.

For ESET you have to click on Start and then scroll down in the program list until you see ESET Online Scanner.  Right click and choose Uninstall.

Okay.  Sorted both of them.  Thank you for that.

So I guess that's me done?  If so, thank you for all your hard work and help.  You've given my Pc a new lease of life.

Kind regards

Paul
