Hello.

I spilled wine on my HP Envy laptop, and everything works but the touch screen.
I tried many things like disabling it. I deleted it. How do I get it back?
I have Windows 11.
Things I have done:
I went to Control Panel - Devices - HID - I uninstalled the touch screen.
It no longer shows up anywhere. I uninstalled it thinking that I could easily reinstall it but . .

HP Envy laptop

There are many different versions of the same computer, can you tell us the exact one that you have and ideally the serial number, you should find both on the base.

HP Envy version examples here

Sorry but that does not tell us what we need to know - did you check that link and see how many different versions there are.

In Device Manager under the View tab have you checked under the Show hidden devices tab to see if the Touch Screen is listed.

Download then run Speccy ( free ) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

  1. In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
  2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
  3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

No rush on the above on my behalf, been online for nearly eleven hrs so need to call it a day now.

Operating System
Windows 11 Pro 64-bit
Computer type: Notebook
Installation Date: 1/16/2025 5:48:36 PM

You made no mention of having reinstalled Windows, Speccy is telling us that you have and unfortunately it has not been done correctly, how it must be done and for as to why is explained in my canned info below;

Once Windows has been clean installed you must then install first the MBs chipset drivers then the storage/SATA drivers and third the graphics drivers, the drivers can either come from a disk provided by the motherboard manufacturer ** or downloaded from their site and saved to a flash drive etc, this is a must and Windows should not be allowed to check for updates before it has been done as more often than not Windows installs the wrong drivers or in the incorrect order and this can cause all sorts of problems.

The reason why this procedure is so important, the chipset is what enables the MB to be able to communicate with all the hardware + are the first drivers that Windows looks for on boot.

** For OEM computers/notebooks such as Acer, Dell, HP and Lenovo etc you must only download drivers from their support page, OEMs may sometimes redirect users to a third party site such as AMD or Nvidea to obtain the latest drivers for their GPUs, this tends to be for high end gaming notebooks and desktops though.

You have also installed Avast and AVG and that is just asking for trouble, rather than making your computer secure it will leave it open to malware attack when they cancel each other out.

You may not have intentionally done so but what can`t speak can`t lie and your present Windows installation date is highlighted in red in my reply #6 and the below is all that has been installed since that date;

Installed
1/16/2025 HP Inc. - Firmware - 15.18.0.0
HP Inc. Firmware driver update released in March 2024
1/16/2025 Windows 11, version 24H2
Install the latest version of Windows: Windows 11, version 24H2.

Does this date tie in with when your touchscreen stopped working.

I see that it says that. And I see it when I pull up the system info.
I don't get how I could possibly have done it, but obviously I did.
The date seems logical. It was also the date that I spilled the wine.

I don't quite understand your directions:

"Once Windows has been clean installed you must then install first the MBs chipset drivers then the storage/SATA drivers and third the graphics drivers, the drivers can either come from a disk provided by the motherboard manufacturer ** or downloaded from their site and saved to a flash drive etc, this is a must and Windows should not be allowed to check for updates before it has been done as more often than not Windows installs the wrong drivers or in the incorrect order and this can cause all sorts of problems."

How do I clean Windows? Please say you don't mean wiped? And once I clean Windows, I have to go to HP and install all of those drivers in the exact order that you wrote them?
By the way, thank you for your patience with me.

Crossed wires as it was not suggested that you clean install Windows, that has already been done and the information that I provided was an explanation as to how you do a clean install correctly and why doing so is important, you are past that stage already so we need to suggest something else.

Have HP do a driver autodetect for you, go here please.

The number one driver to look out for and to install is the chipset.

You are welcome and no worries, no one is born knowing this stuff.

Did the HP autodetect recommend any Touch Screen drivers.

Has the Touch Screen reappeared anywhere in Device Manager.

Did this computer ship with Windows 10 and you later updated it to Windows 11.

The HP autodetect tool identifies your computer details, can you post them in your next reply for us, your thread is at a dead end without the info I`m afraid.
