Hi, Jim.

I've backed up the laptop, and will watch the condition of the drive, and make a decision on whether to get a new drive or new laptop in the near future. This laptop is about seven years old. Thanks again for all the help.

Your decision is fine.

Before you decide about a new laptop, it would be good to check if your laptop can get updated to Windows 11. Windows 10 will stop getting support from Microsoft in October 2025, so a new purchase would be a good move if this laptop can't be updated. If it passes the check, however, go for a disk replacement (before any upgrade) and then upgrade the computer.

Dr M,

Looks like the laptop is not adequate for upgrade to Windows 11. I will keep checking the disc condition, and look for a new laptop.  Thanks again very much for your patience and help.

Very Sincerely, Fred

I thought it was Jim?

Whatever it is, you are very welcome. Backup first, then keep checking the disk!

Dr. M

Sorry, tis Jim. I shall back up, and then check. The computer is quite a bit faster, and I thank you very much for that. It has been fun and informative to work with you.

Cheers, Jim.

I'm glad to hear that the computer is quite a bit faster. We cleaned and made some maintenance. However, have in mind that when a disk starts to have signs of failure things won't be getting better.

Thanks for your kind words.

Take care!
