Going to jump in here (registered to forum just to do so lol).Though unlike the majority, I have always kept current to my acdsee (and if I had to choose a favorite version , it would be Pro 2.5). However. as so many that I have seen posting on the matter of picaview, I too, have used the dern thing for wow? It seems honestly over a decade (I might be wrong as I can't say for certain when it was first released), but I am almost positive it was not long after discovering "the www", which that was in oh 98. Anyhow, it was love at FIRST SIGHT as far as my acdsee products went, and they had me at HELLO. ACDsee has always been a rocking image viewer, but it was and always HAS BEEN, picaview that I truly find IRREPLACEABLE in my online "doings". I started encountering the same error/s when Santa brought me a new Vista loaded computer last Christmas. I never knew what the heck it was that I tried that eventually got it up and going, but was just thankful I did! However, Vista is JUST VILE, and there was nothing that was going to stop me from moving to 7 (not even researching that picaview was NOT going to work in it). I again have no clue what it was out of all the suggestions (and my own persistence) that got that old grey mare going again, but it WILL work and again, I am just thankful lol (Ty to all for the tips). It is truly shameful in my mind that acdsee dropped the product (or at least any updates/grades) in so many years. And sinful no one else has been able to NAIL the essence of said product as well as they did. I truly can not comprehend how anyone can SURVIVE their online dwellings without it (honestly it is beyond me?). I have been "right clicking" the last month and a half and every time I saw nada, it just broke my heart lol So glad to have it back.

I was getting the unrecoverable error message with the IDE_ACDSTD.apl plugin when I tried to convert bmp files to jpg. I ran across this fix on another forum which worked for me. There are cautions about using it but this is the fix in a nutshell:

1. On Win XP sp2 go to System properties (Control Panel) then click the Advanced tab and go to Performance settings.

2. Then click on 'Data Execution Prevention' and select 'Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select'.

3. Then check the checkbox next to 'Windows Explorer' and click 'Apply' and reboot. That's it.

The caution (as I understood it) was about disabling DEP for any particular program because DEP prevents the usage of certain memory locations by unauthorized programs such as viruses, trojans, etc that might harm Windows system files.

Anyway, this worked for me. Hope it helps.

Here's a link to the other forum.
