Hello. I am brand new to this site and am also pretty slow with computers. I have an XP operating system.
Here is my problem. I bought a new mouse for my laptop and plugged it into the usb. The computer detects the mouse but it says that i need to get the file hidusb.sys from my backup CD-ROM. It goes int "found new hardware wizard" and then searches for a minute and then comes up with this...

The file 'hidusb.sys' on windows XP Home EDition is CD-ROM is needed.

Type path where file is located then click OK.

What path do i TYPE? I did a search and my computer does not have this file. I then put in the cd that came with the computer and dont know where I can find this file. This is driving me crazy. I hope someone can help.

thanks

Hi cvette! Welcome to G2G!

Please download the attached zip file that contains the hidusb.sys file that you need. When extracting the hidusb.sys file MAKE SURE THE PATH IS C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS. After it is there replug back in your usb mouse and if it asks for the path, then navigate to that folder and select the file there. I doubt it will ask you for that file since windows will look in that folder by default anyways.

Post back how things are going after doing this.

Have it look for that file in C:\windows\system32\drivers.

You can download the attachment and do the same thing when extracting it that you did for hidusb.zip.

Sorry for bumping an old topic, but I ran across this thread via Google, and I'm having the exact same problem. I cannot see the attachments that are mentioned, nor can I download the bundled zip from the link above.

I'd be really grateful if anyone could upload all those mentioned files again. Thanks.
