gerryf,

Results from Post 16 (net start rpcss):
The requested service has already been started. More help is available by typing net helpmsg 2182.

Results from Post 17 (eventvwr.msc):
No errors. Nothing to post. Last entry was around 7:30ish this morning. I think there are 14 events logged around then. But none since.

I hope were getting closer!!!

gerryf,

Yes, I double checked to be sure, this account is an administrator.

Radio button is "This Account" and in the box "NT Authority/Network Service" Below there is a password and confirmation (all dots).

Down below, only 1 profile (Profile 1); it is enabled.

Results from cmd , then: net start spooler:

System Error 1058 has occurred.

The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Well, match the list..... hmmm....

I'll leave the services present that are not on the MS list

I'll ignore the services that are absent from the MS list (cuz I don't know how to add them)

I'll make a restore point, just in case.

comment?

OK, machine boots.

*************
Did NOT change everything. Here's what I didn't change:

Messenger - left it DISABLED. Surely printer installation wouldn't use this???

Portable Media Serial No

AND....

**********
When I tried to change Remote Procedure Call (RPC) from Network Service to Local, I didn't select "... interact with desktop". When I accepted/OK got message:

The new logon name will not take effect until you stop and restart the service.

I just checked, the RPC service is now grayed out for local and network but the "... interact with desktop" box can be selected.

**********
Tried:

start > run
cmd
enter

type

net start spooler
enter

get same error

System Error 1058 has occurred.

**********
Ideas?

Can anybody help with this? If I don't get this fixed today, tomorrow I'll have to pay $99 to get Dell to fix it.

Anybody have any ideas......

Last chance.....

First, create a new user and see if you can install from there.
